The
Indians from tropical America used the pigment to paint the skin and dyeing
their hair
A group of Indians was painted in 1541 Francisco de Orellana on
his journey through South America and later the plant named after him
We saw
this fruit in Topes de Collantes and with only one seed these lips colored orange and
it wasn't easy to get his lips clean again
The orleaan tree or annatto tree (Bixa orellana) is a shrub known in South America which owes its fame to the color (annatto), which is extracted from the fruit
Also outside the natural range (tropical South America) the orleaan tree grown and can grow 6 feet tall
The fruits are up to 4 cm, red, egg-shaped and covered with soft bristles
One fruit may show up to fifty seeds
The pigment is used in lipstick, soap and known under code E160 in foods like cheese and margarine
