In Cuba, you have three types of bananas

In Cuba grow three types of bananas:
dessert-, red and bake bananas

We have visited in Cuba banana plantations and tasted several bananas

The banana taste much sweeter than in the Netherlands (probably because they ripen in the sun) but the red banana was my favorite

The dessert banana has a thick skin, is yellow and about 20 cm long

The flower is also edible and has somewhat bitter and slightly sweet taste

Red banana or banana Cuba is a fruit belonging to the genus Musa
like the dessert banana

The red banana is about 12 cm long and smaller than the dessert banana

The skin is a greenish -red to red color, caused by the
antioxidant beta- carotene

The flesh is cream to pale pink in color and the taste is slightly sweeter than the dessert banana

The fruit can be eaten fresh or cooked

The bake banana is a fruit that is eaten fried or boiled

Due to the high starch content is unripe, raw fruit difficult to digest

The bake banana is 30 to 40 cm long, so much longer than the dessert banana and has a hard shell

The color of the bake banana is green, yellow or reddish

In tropical countries the bake banana is an important part of the meal,
similar to the potatoes in Netherlands

Bake banana is used as the shell has become completely black

They make chips of unripe bake bananas

A banana plant or banana tree is actually an herb (the world's largest herb)

According to the horticultural definition banana belongs to the vegetables

According to the culinary definition it`s a fruit because the banana is eaten as a snack or as a dessert
