Gran Teatro de La Habana is the oldest theater that`s still
active in Latin America
The
theater was inaugurated on April 15, 1838 and is known far beyond the borders
of the island
After a number of reforms, on the outside and inside, the
building received its present form
In its history it has also called National
Grand Theater and
Theater Garcia Lorca
The current building was reopened in 1915 and is now one of the finest buildings in the Cuban capital
Since its inception the most prestigious ballet companies has danced here
Since 1965 the theater is the permanent home of the National Ballet of Cuba
Since 1985, on the initiative of Alicia Alonso, the entire building was renamed the Gran Teatro de La Habana
We have given the doorman a CUC per person and were allowed to enter the beautiful theater and admired the inside
In the hall is a model of the theater
After you enter the hall you see an impressive staircase and marble decorations
There were huge paintings on the ceiling and other beautiful decorations
